A young friend of mine was complaining of a lost deal. He had been in contact with his customer for almost a week and was promised the business. The very first comments from him was that the customer was unethical, didn’t keep his word, dishonest etc..
I asked him what was really bothering him, and he repeatedly complained about the customer and the lost of business. When I persisted in asking the same question, he finally said he was dissapointed with himself, due to his hunger to succeed. The mistake was overly persistent till the customer was put off by his constant bugging.
Instead of following up professionally, he became a nuisance to the customer. His anticipation and expectations were so high that when the deal was cancelled, he became devastated. Who indeed was to blame for the disappointment?
Morale of the Story: When we point a finger at others, we forgot that we have another 3 pointing at ourselves! It is easy to blame others, but we really forgot the other person is only a mirror of our actions that we couldn’t face them ourselves.
Lets reflect our our actions and thoughts before we cast the stone of judgement, we are after all, a reflection of others, and vice versa!
